The first is my foil, used in the sport of fencing as a method of self defense. I purchase this weapon in the early 1980s and have been holding on to it since my fencing classes. I recognize that this weapon represents an extreme emotional attachment to the romantic arts as well as a period of my life, long ago, when I was much younger and without children. I also recognize that while I love the sport, it is most improbable that I will ever re-enter into this activity again. I have two specialized gloves that will go with this "dry foil" when I post it on Craig's List. I will feel some sense of closure as well as some loss when this chapter of my life closes. But it's time to move on.
The second is one of my first 56K dial up modem. This is another one of those "just in case" items that I have been hording for a long time. Hell, we don't even have a land line phone anymore. Obviously, this one is much easier to separate myself from. Good riddance.
I do not intend to burden you with my dirty laundry of things as I divest myself of the "baggage" that I've accumulated over the years but these two things seem like a strangely accurate representation of the collection of "stuff" that I will be sorting through.

Just wanted to let you know that I found your blog, today, awe inspiring! I've been pretty good about staying clutter free, but I can purge myself of so much more!
I have several things that I haven't used/worn in several years. Is it necessary for me to have 4 different cosmetic bags? I think not!!!
I also read over the article you posted about living with 100 things. I found this really helpful too, and it's given me the kick in the butt that I needed.
Charlotte's coming soon, we'll be moving (sometime) once again, and I really don't want to move any unnecessary stuff with us!
You may think I'm crazy, but I'm getting started RIGHT NOW! Well after I post my comment...lol. Thanks for the Motivation DUDE :) Now...if only I can get Josh to part with at least half of his tie collection!

It should be easy to get rid of those ties. The only real problem is that no one else will want them so you can't pass them on an the Salvation Army might even reject some of those rejects.
